BBB advises consumers be cautious when shopping at seasonal Halloween stores

According to the National Retail Federation, 170 million Americans will spend approximately $8 billion this year on Halloween candy, pumpkins, decorations and costumes. Better Business Bureau advises consumers to be cautious when shopping for Halloween goodies and be wary of fly-by-night costume vendors.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, BBB warns consumers about “pink” product claims

Every October, thousands of products display the pink ribbon or pink packaging in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. While many of these products have a real tie to breast cancer charities, other pink-labeled products can be described as a form of “pinkwashing,” and provide very limited benefit to charities, if any at all.

Local community invited to BBB’s 9th bi-annual Shred Day event

Better Business Bureau invites area consumers and businesses to participate in its bi-annual Shred Day events Saturday, Oct. 20 and Saturday, Oct. 27. Shred Day is an opportunity for local consumers and businesses to prevent identity theft and help the environment through free on-site document shredding, as well as paper, cell phone and computer recycling. A recent study published by Carnegie Mellon University Cylab, a cybersecurity research center, found that children were targeted by identity thieves 51 times more frequently than adults. Your Better Business Bureau has received close to 50 complaints in the past month against collection agencies and is reminding consumers about their rights.
