BBB Serving Central, Coastal, and Southwest Texas Awarded Highest Honors at International Assembly

Austin, TX - BBB serving Central, Coastal and Southwest Texas recently received five international awards at the 2009 BBB International Assembly in Boston. The awards - including three of the highest honors a Better Business Bureau can earn - recognize all facets of Better Business Bureau work: communications, core services and business development.

“We are so proud of these honors,” said Carrie A. Hurt, President and CEO of BBB serving Central, Coastal and Southwest Texas. “Our staff has worked hard to continuously improve services at the local and national level, and it is so exciting to be recognized for these accomplishments.”

The Outstanding BBB Awards recognize excellence in several aspects of BBB work. BBBs are invited to submit entries based on special projects and are recognized in categories according to BBB size. While there are more than 120 local BBB’s throughout the United States and Canada, only nineteen Outstanding BBB Awards were given out this year. BBB serving Central, Coastal and Southwest Texas was recognized for the following achievements:

Marshall A. Mott Award
The highest honor for a local Better Business Bureau, the Marshall A. Mott award, recognizes outstanding overall communications by a local BBB in areas such as internal and external communications and advertising and marketing campaigns.

Overall Operations
The Overall Operations award highlights the success of a local BBB’s core services, including inquiry handling, complaint mediation and arbitration services, advertising review and solicitation control. BBB serving Central, Coastal and Southwest Texas brought home the prize for Overall Operations in recognizing excellence in all facets of core BBB Services.

Public Awareness Campaign
BBB was recognized for a public awareness campaign developed in March and April of 2009 in response to the record-breaking hail storm damage that pummeled the greater Central Texas area. The campaign informed consumers on how to protect themselves before, during and after a hail storm and how to stay clear of fly-by-night companies looking to take advantage of homeowners with hail storm damage.

Business Development

BBB serving Central, Coastal and Southwest Texas was recognized with two awards for recruiting and recognizing trustworthy businesses. This is likely the result of increased demand and awareness for BBB Accreditation among local businesses this year.
